All relevant key experts from the Member States as well as from the BC, involving the experts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Health and all other relevant experts having responsibilities in the implementation of the project, as well as the RTA / RTA counterpart and Project Leaders / Junior Partner Project Leader meet to reflect on the project.

The Wrap-up Meeting started with welcome words of PL Ömer Faruk Mutlu, then the CEO of the Austrian Environment Agency, Georg Rebernig spoke about the “Achievements in the field of the Nitrates Directive and perspective for further cooperation”. Afterwards the RTA-Counterpart, Yeşim Başaran, presented the “General expectations of the Nitrates Twinning Project”.

„Experiences, results and perspectives” were presented for Component 1 – “Legislative assessment, as well as support in the development of policy options and secondary legislation for an effective implementation of the national “Regulation on the Protection of the Waters Against Nitrate Pollution Caused by Agricultural Resources” by the Component Leaders from BC and MS Haşim Toksoy and Edith Hödl-Kreuzbauer.

The monitoring experts (Component 2 Leaders) from BC and MS, Süleyman Demir, Christian Schilling and Andreas Scheidleder gave afterwards insight to Component 2 – “Support for the establishment of network systems for effective monitoring of ground- and surface waters in line with reporting obligations of Nitrates Directive” and spoke about the current monitoring activities and gave an outlook to the further necessary developments.

Information as regards results achieved, key findings and key conclusions from the Component 3 – “Strengthening the institutional and technical capacity of MARA, support in increasing farmer awareness and knowledge as well as support for knowledge transfer from MARA to MoEF and the GD of State Hydraulic Works within the MoEF” have been given by the Component 3 Leaders Basri Evci and Jan van Rheenen as well as from the Junior Project Leader Peter van der Goot.

PL Karl Schwaiger presented the way forward for Turkey to implement the EU-Nitrates Directive, in particular about the necessary policy developments, furthermore he thanked all partners involved for the cooperation in the last month. Also PL Ömer Faruk Mutlu expressed his gratitude to all experts involved in his closing words.
